OUR HISTORY
Established on August 12, 1958, Wenty Leagues has grown from humble beginnings into the vibrant community hub it is today. On September 11, 1958, the first 46 Foundation Life Members were officially welcomed, paving the way for the Club’s incredible journey.
EARLY VISIONARIES
The founding pioneers of Wenty Leagues had extraordinary vision, despite limited resources. Funds were raised through member subscriptions, raffles, beer tickets, and even “first try scorer” competitions, along with a loan from the local Bank of New South Wales, backed by Millers’ Brewery.
In September 1959, the Club purchased its first parcel of land, marking the start of a transformative era. By July 1960, with 211 members, the first liquor license application was submitted, with the original 46 members recognized as the “Foundation Life Members.”
BUILDING WENTY
The journey began in 1956, when the General Committee of the Rugby League Football Club resolved to establish a Leagues Club. Initial funding was secured through Foundation Life Memberships, offered at £10 each. Thanks to early supporters like Barry Moulds, Jim Docking, and Wally Webster, the Club officially launched.
In 1962, Wenty Leagues opened its first clubhouse—a single-level building constructed at a cost of $46,000 to serve approximately 200 members. While modest compared to today’s expansive venue at the Great Western Highway/Smith Street site, it laid the foundation for a thriving community-focused Club.
