#BalanceTheScales: Celebrating International Women’s Day

We were proud to join the community at Revesby Workers’ Club to celebrate International Women’s Day. This year’s theme, #BalanceTheScales, strongly resonated with us. It highlighted the importance of ensuring every woman and girl is heard, safe and empowered. Most importantly, it reinforced that everyone deserves the opportunity to shape their own future.

The event featured an impressive line-up of speakers from medicine, advocacy and sport. Each shared powerful stories and valuable insights.

Natalie Cooney shared her inspiring journey in rare disease research. As Chair of the FSHD Global Research Foundation, she has helped raise more than $30 million for research. She also founded Lady Mont, an initiative that supports women in leadership. Her message focused on resilience, innovation and the importance of giving back.

Molly Croft also shared her remarkable story. As a two-time cancer survivor and founder of The Tie Dye Project, she has turned personal challenges into advocacy. Her work supports young people, families navigating the health system and people with disability. She has raised more than $2 million through her initiatives. In addition, she continues to inspire others through mentoring, speaking engagements and her university studies.

The event also celebrated women in sport. A panel discussion featured Tarsha Gale, a pioneer in women’s rugby league, and Tom Sermanni, a respected figure in women’s football. Together, they discussed the growth of female sport and the challenges that remain. They also highlighted the importance of mentorship, visibility and perseverance.

For us at Wenty Leagues, the event offered both celebration and reflection. It was a chance to recognise the remarkable women who strengthen our community every day.
