ANZAC Day is a day of remembrance that honours the memory of Australian & New Zealand Army Corp soldiers who fought and perished during the First World War. In addition, it serves as a day of reflection for all soldiers who have lost their lives fighting for their countries.
The day has been recognised with a National public holiday since 1927, and by the mid-1930’s the rituals we know today were well and truly established, including dawn services, marches, and two-up.
The phrase heard each and every year, ‘Lest We Forget’ is recited after the Ode of Remembrance, which is derived from the poem “For the Fallen”, written by Laurance Binyon. The poem reads – “They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.”
Join us this ANZAC Day for a meaningful day of remembrance and community. The ANZAC Day March will be broadcast live throughout the club from 9am, offering a chance to reflect and honour our servicemen and women. Enjoy live and free entertainment across the club, with performances at 11:30am in The Café and The Plaza, 7:00pm in The Café, and TuCandela Latin Night kicking off at 10:00pm.
ANZAC biscuits will be available from The Café, and the club will be operating with extended trading hours from 9am to 6am on both Thursday 24 April and Friday 25 April. Catch all three ANZAC Day NRL fixtures live, starting with St George Illawarra Dragons vs Sydney Roosters at 4pm, followed by Warriors vs Newcastle Knights at 6pm, and Melbourne Storm vs Sydney Rabbitohs at 8pm. Spend the day with us as we honour the past and come together as a community.
