Supporting Brain Cancer Research, One Beanie at a Time
In a powerful show of team spirit and community support, this year’s Beanies for Brain Cancer Round brought together the Wentworthville Magpies, Wenty Leagues Club, and the Mark Hughes Foundation. Together, the entire community raised vital funds and awareness for brain cancer research.
Wenty Leagues proudly supplied official Mark Hughes Foundation Beanies to the Magpies’ senior teams. Players wore them on and off the field to support the cause. The iconic beanies sent a strong message of unity and compassion, reminding everyone of the impact sport can have beyond the game.
Fans and supporters also joined in by purchasing beanies at the game. All proceeds went directly to the Mark Hughes Foundation. Volunteers and staff helped raise awareness throughout the event, creating a sense of shared purpose and pride within the local community.
The funds also supported Joe Galuvao, Assistant Coach of the Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Premiership team. He took part in The Big Three Trek, consisting of a gruelling 150km walk from NRL Headquarters in Sydney to Newcastle. His effort was in honour of those affected by brain cancer and helped shine a spotlight on the cause.
Thanks to the generosity of the Magpies and the wider rugby league community, the initiative raised $2,500 for the Foundation. Every dollar supports vital research and helps improve outcomes for patients and families across New South Wales.
This round was more than a fundraiser. It was a chance for the rugby league community to stand together for a cause that touches so many lives in so many ways.
The Mark Hughes Foundation’s Beanies for Brain Cancer campaign continues to unite sporting communities across Australia. It raises funds for research, treatment, and greater awareness of this devastating disease.
Together, we’re changing lives and bringing hope to families when they need it most.
