Wenty Leagues is overjoyed to be named as a finalist in the 2021 ClubsNSW Clubs & Community Awards for 5 initiatives in 4 award categories including:

Break the Cycle, Change a Life – Youth Off The Streets

Education is the key to breaking the cycle of disadvantage for at risk youths because it gives them a better chance of turning their lives around and achieving their full potential. The support of those around kids at a young age is crucial for their development and overcoming barriers and learning new skills.

These are the reasons why Wenty Leagues develops programs with Youth Off The Street to help educate young people to create opportunities that may not have been available. Wenty Leagues has committed to educate and alleviate the barriers at risk young people face in our community.

Fostering Grassroots Sport

Wenty Magpies Rugby League Support

When likeminded individuals come together, collectively they can achieve more for the community. This is shown when Wenty Leagues puts on multiple large community events to support Wenty Magpies every year. These events are ways the club fosters a strong connection to the diverse range of people who live in the area through Grassroots Football. These events are all inclusive and can range from sporting award ceremonies, specialised functions and the most prominent being Magpie Family Fun Day.

Health & Wellbeing

Friends for Families with Seriously-ill Children – Ronald McDonald House

The partnership with Ronald McDonald House has grown and continues to strengthen over the years. More and more Wenty Leagues staff are volunteering their time to prepare meals, toy donations double every Christmas with multiple pickups needing to be arranged because the collection box always reaches capacity. Room Sponsorship has also been consistently supported for the last two years and is likely to be supported in the years to come.

Humanity for the Homeless – Parramatta Mission

Wenty Leagues remains resolute in our commitment to transform lives and address the needs of some of the most marginalised people in one of Australia’s greatest cities. Wenty Leagues has committed to alleviate the suffering of those facing homelessness in our local government area by providing different ranges of support including financial, staff volunteering, clothing drives and special events to raise much needed funding.

Heart of the Community

Unite and Raise Bushfire Appeal

During 2019 and 2020 bushfire season, Australia faced intense bushfires across many states & territories for months and was known as the “Black Summer”. Throughout our summer hundreds of these fires burnt on the south east of the country leaving millions of hectares lost, wildlife & fauna decimated, thousands of homes and buildings burnt to the ground along with 34 lives lost. The impact of the fires was horrific and beyond belief and to those brave men and woman who put their lives on the line, Australian people could never thank you enough for your courage in those dark days.

On Friday 28th February 2020, Clubs and the Hospitality Industry came together for a very worthy charity lunch, to raise much needed funds for Australians affected by the bushfires. 100% of the ticket price and all funds raised on the day were donated to the Unite & Raise Bushfire Appeal.

The Clubs & Community Awards recognise outstanding social contributions made by clubs in our community. We look forward to the winners being announced in May.
