NSW Cup
With some astute signings and with Parramatta coach Ricky
Stuart promising to send back all available players not required
for NRL duties, Brett Cook can look forward to a very competitive
outfit. Competition commenced on Sat 9 Mar where
Wentworthville took on the Auckland Vulcans. In a deal between
the NSWRL and Foxtel to promote the NSW Cup, Foxtel will be
covering a NSW Cup game live each week and our game
against Auckland Vulcans was the first to be covered. At this
stage other scheduled dates for coverage of Wentworthville
games are Round 5, Sat 6 Apr versus Newcastle Knights at
Parramatta Stadium at 1.05pm and Round 18, Sat 13 Jul versus
Manly Sea Eagles at Parramatta Stadium at 3.00pm.
Ron Massey Cup
With the Bundaberg Group withdrawing their Sponsorship the
Bundy Red Cup has been renamed the “Ron Massey Cup” in
honour of that great Rugby League stalwart. With a lesser number
of teams than the NSW Cup, in place of trials the Alex Chan
prepared squad will contest the Ron Massey Cup preseason
competition. The competition over 4 weeks will give the team
a strong build up for the Ron Massey Cup which commences on
Sun 7 Apr. Round 1 is scheduled against Mounties at Ringrose
Park, kick off 3.00pm. Early indications are that with the talent
available a successful defence of the Premiership won last year
is a distinct possibility.
Annual Meeting
The AGM of the WDRLFC was held on Sun 10 Feb 2013. Elected
to the Board of Directors unopposed were Jason Grant - President,
Ron Bottle - Secretary, Scott Foster - Treasurer, Directors - Eddie
Ervine, Adam Capovilla and Rick Stringfellow.
Any person that would like to become involved with our Club and
assist on game days can join our Advisory Board by calling
John Stephenson on 0415 158 240. We are always on the lookout
for new members, so why not join and be part of this wonderful
Club. Membership forms are available at home games, Wenty
Leagues Club or by contacting the Secretary. Similarly WDRLFC
always welcome persons that may be in a position to Sponsor this
successful Club, and if this is you contact the Secretary for a copy
of our Sponsorship Proposal.
